If you don’t know what a survival kit is then read on to get information on survival kits and you will also get to know how and why they are important. A survival kit contains some essentials that you can carry along with you when you are out or keep close to you when you are at home so that you are prepared to survive in dire situations. If you are a frequent camper or hiker then you should make it a point to carry your survival kit along with you whenever you are going on your next trip. If you carry your survival kit along with you, you will be able to survive for a day or two till help arrives. So you need to make sure that you include enough supplies along with you so that they will last you for three days, at the most. It is not at all difficult to prepare a survival kit.

First you need to start with making a list of all the essentials that you need to include in your kit. This will include a blanket, canned food, water, radio, flashlights, batteries, first aid kit, etc. once you have made a list of everything that you need to include you need to find a bag to put all this stuff into. You need to make sure that your survival kit is light so that you can carry it around easily without feeling that the weight is wearing you down.

You should carry MRE which is an abbreviation for meals ready to eat. During emergencies you wont be able to cook anything. So you should carry canned food that is ready to eat. Check the expiry date of the canned food before you put it into the bag. You need to have a first aid kit so that you can tend to your injuries, if there are any. With the help of a survival kit you will be able to take care of yourself till help arrives. You should also include some cash in your survival kit as you never know when you will need it. This is your emergency cash, so you shouldn’t touch unless you actually need it. Make sure that every member in you family has a survival kit. Your bag should either be a backpack or a duffel bag as these bags are easier to carry. A backpack is more preferable as it can be carried easily on your shoulders.

If you travel frequently especially go camping or trekking or road trips, then you know how hard it is to find basic necessities. In such times it is an absolute must to carry a survival kit. Survival kits are kits that contain all the basic things one would need if stuck away from urban life, like in a forest or a on a mountain or in the desert.

Usually these kits are designed for survival in the wild but now with the number of natural calamities hitting the cities, there are office and home survival kits too. It may not be as bad as they show in the movies like Armageddon arriving or the end of the world, but the natural calamities that strike certain cities and towns does make it seem so. There are still people stranded, alone and in need of help.

In such times till help arrives, a survival kit sustains life. Tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes are some of the natural calamities that strike certain cities. The survival kit for these cities should be stocked as per the individual needs. Apart from food tins, water bottles, small snacks like chocolate bars, snickers too should be packed. These small bars are high in protein sugar which is required for the body to survive when stuck.

First aid kits containing band aid, gauze, cotton and some antiseptic liquid should be packed in, one can also add pills required by family members here, like pain killers, or certain medication a member of the family may be taking for example, diabetes pills. Do not forget a torch with extra set of batteries, an AM/FM radio, a whistle to attract for help, blankets to keep warm, wet wipes, tissue paper, toilet paper and a board game or pack of cards to keep boredom at bay.

There are many survival kits available in the market. One can go to the store to check it out or look them up online. The online stores have great value discounts making the purchase quite a bargain. These ready made kits are packed with the required things and easy to fit in pouches materials. For example your torch may be big and bulky, the one in the ready made survival kit has an easy rechargeable squeeze flashlight or a LED flashlight which is more suited to using it in such a situation.

The kits also have an MRE cook in the pouch packets. These pouches are boiled in water and the contents are ready to eat. These ouches do not take up too much space and so a number of them can be packed into the survival kit. The contents of a bought kit can always be changed as per individual needs.

What A Survival Kit Should Include

The world has become quite an uncertain place. There is really no way of knowing when and where disaster may strike. In the  past decade we have witnessed every kind of natural disaster, from earthquakes and floods to tsunamis and hurricanes. There  is nothing that you can do to stop calamities from happening but you can prepare yourself to deal with the aftermath in case  something happens.

The best way to be prepared is to have your own survival kit prepared. Survival kits are very important they can come in very  handy if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation. There are a few things that every survival kit must contain. The  most important would be some sort of solution for drinking water. You have the option of carrying bottled water on you. This  is a very unpractical solution because it does not make sense for you to carry a large amount of water with you. It would  make the kit very heavy and cumbersome to carry.

Most survival kits have some sort of portable water filter or water purifying tablets so that you can have access to clean  and safe drinking water. The kit will also include some sort of portable shelter. A camping tent or a tube shelter is ideal  for such use. You should also include other essential items like a two way radio, a solar spark lighter so that you can start  a fire and a first aid kit. A compass can help you navigate if you are lost and need to find your way.

Another important element that should be included in your kit is a solution for food. A good idea is to include lots of  energy bars and ready to make meals from makers like MRE. These meals are easy to make and will keep you fed if you are stuck  in a bad situation. All of these things together will complete your survival kit. If you are buying the survival kit online  then you should find out what the kit includes before you make your purchase.

You can put your own kit together but you may not be able to find all the things that you need. It is easier and more  practical to buy a pre-assembled kit. You should make sure that you keep the kit in a place that is easy to reach. If  possible keep a secondary kit in your car so that you are never too far away from your emergency supplies.
