Protect Yourself With The Right Vest

When getting body armor it is vital to know what grade of protection degree and the level of ballistic safety it pertains to.  Body armor was developed to provide protection during battles and war. They have been broadly developed during World War I.  Today body armor consists of protection for the whole body in particular for law enforcement officers, military officers and  special operations officers.

Previously body armor was made of chain mail or would consist of a metal plate or ceramic plate.  But after the introduction of the material and its subsequent success, only Kevlar and Aramid are used to make bullet proof  vests. Advancement in the technology of weapons has brought about changes in body armor especially to provide protection from  the new weaponry used. Nowadays bullets and guns are mostly used thus the materialization of bullet proof vests. These vests  are made of Kevlar which blocks the bullet from touching the skin.

Throughout the Vietnam War it was noticed that their  soldiers were suffering from shrapnel and fragments and not bullets, this led to the advancement of a military vest which is  more tightly woven than the normal bullet proof vests. Currently the bullet proof vest is used expansively by police officers  and the various departments of the law such as the FBI agents, the CBI agents, the SWAT teams. These people deal with bullets  hitting them all the time. These vests offer protection to the body. When the person gets hit by a bullet, even though he or  she is wearing a bullet proof vest, depending on how powerful the machine it came out from and the distance it was fired at,  can cause significant bruising and pain.

Even though the bullet proof vest prevents the bullet from penetrating, the impact  is still very much like being hit real hard. This is why it is vital to get it checked by a medical team to ensure there is  no other disturbance created in the body like fractures or internal bleeding apart from bruising and intense pain. These  vests are also available to the common man. One can find them for sale at army surplus stores or stores that specialize in  guns. Some stores specialize only in protective gear and include the bullet proof vest. There are different kinds of body  armor available. They are each priced depending on the strength of the material and the weave.

Some useful information regarding bulletproof vests

When people think about body armor, they think about the heavy metal body armor worn by the soldiers in the olden times. The soldiers used to wear this heavy and hot body armor back them because it was ideal to protect them against the weapons that were used at that time. But now those weapons are not in use and they are only seen in movies and museums. Nowadays the weapons that are being used are modern and sophisticated and the metal body armor will not protect the wearer in any way, from this modern weaponry. So now the body armor used it fit to protect the wearer from bullets and other weapons. You won’t see people wearing metal body armor anymore; people are seen wearing bullet proof vests now.  The bulletproof vest protects the wearer from the bullets fired at him in the torso area.

This body armor (bullet proof vest) is soft and light. It also doesn’t make the wearer feel hot and uncomfortable. Over the years these vests have been designed to ward of the threat from modern weapons. So as the bullets change, so do the bullet proof vests. But even wearing this vest doesn’t protect the wearer from injury. Of course the injury won’t be fatal, but it will be enough to slow you down or even limit your movements. If a bullet is fired from a greater distance then the vest will be able to cushion the blow. But, if a bullet is fired from a shorter range, and if the momentum is too much then, the bullet may penetrate through the vest and enter your skin.

If the force with which the bullet enters the vest is not much then you will suffer from blunt force trauma and you may have some hairline fracture in the bone. So even when you are wearing a bulletproof vest you need to be scared for your life as wearing it doesn’t make you invincible. You also need to choose a vest that will help you move freely and use your arms properly.

While buying a bulletproof vest go for something comfortable so that you can move about easily when you are wearing it. If it doesn’t let you move freely then this will turn out to be a very big disadvantage. Also go for the best one, no matter how expensive it is as you shouldn’t take any chance with your life.

The pull of a trigger and someone’s life could potentially end. This is the sad truth of our world today. We have seen  developments in every field ever since man discovered how to light a fire. Since then we have come a long way in our  evolution and today we have machine that can accomplish things that previously we thought of as impossible. Our weapons too  have come a long way from their humble beginnings. Gone are the crude clubs and simple crossbows. Instead these days we have  rifles and guns that are a lot more deadly, more effective and easier to use.

If you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation and need to stop an assailant then you will appreciate having a gun at  hand but if you find yourself on the wrong side of the barrel you will find yourself wishing the weapon was never invented.  The problem these days is that guns are too freely available and not everyone uses them responsibly. The simple pull of a  trigger can take a life. It may not even be on purpose. You may find yourself shot accidentally on a hunting trip with your  friends. Is there anything you can do to protect yourself? Yes there is.

In ancient times you would have strapped a shield to your arm to protect yourself if someone came at you with a sword. To  protect yourself from a bullet you will need to put on a Bullet proof vest. A Bulletproof vest is a garment that can be worn  like a normal vest and it will protect you in case you are hit by a bullet. This vest is ineffective if you are shot in the  arm or leg but will protect all the vital organs located in your chest and torso area.

A bullet proof vest is a type of body armor. Though it will protect you from gun fire it will be ineffective if someone comes  at you with a knife. For protection against such attacks you will need different kind of body armor. There are a lot of types  of vests available in the market. Each vest has a rating and the rating determines what calibre bullet the vest can protect  you from. The police department usually use a bulletproof vest with a rating of 2. A vest with a rating of 1 can protect  against a .22 calibre bullet whereas a vest with a rating of 4 will protect you from a .44 calibre bullet as well.
